Predictions

Thu, 17 Apr 2008 15:09:14 PDT
I don’t feel very good about the Avs’ chances tonight. I think the Wild will break a bunch of trends, such as they’ll get the first goal this time, and Marian Gaborik gets at least one point. Final score: Wild 4, Avs 1. This is written about three hours before game time. The Avs didn’t list any injuries for tonight’s game, but something tells me there might be one. Joel Quenneville said there would be a “comparable” lineup to Game 4, which was a bit more vague than we all anticipated. Forsber

It's All About Me (MSM), Isn't It, Charlie Gibson?

Thu, 17 Apr 2008 13:57:41 PDT
Voters care about the economy, Iraq, trustworthiness. But enough about us. MSM cares about Democrats muddying one another. Ratings. Ad revenue (including lots from never-ending campaigns). That's why last night's so-called "debate" featured personal attacks and soap opera. ABC, you aren't "American Idol" or Fox News. For shame!

Tribune Previews Q1: Expect 'Double-Digit' Print Declines; Online Continues To Remain Positive

Thu, 17 Apr 2008 14:15:12 PDT
Details of The Tribune Company's Q1 performance won't be released until mid-May, but the media company sought to provide a general view of how it did since going private in December. In the words of Chairman and CEO Sam Zell, revenue trends are significantly worse than expected, primarily due to significant erosion in classified revenues. Zell told investors to expect in double-digit declines in print ad dollars in Q1, adding that the dismal economy may force Tribune to sell off some of its ass

Frank Wilson has a lot of links worth reading. Some of them will be found below. Why I love the Internet, reason #321: It made the Boston Herald cry: Newspaper runs satire as straight news Worshipping global warming: Bryan Appleyard has a cogent comment about the use of "truth" as a religious revealment and how it's being applied to climate change. Tales from the slush pile: One reader dissects what she has found. Stranger than fiction: CNN's Mental Floss details 10 incidents from fa

Spritz This, Procter & Gamble!

Fri, 21 Mar 2008 20:00:12 PDT
OK. The Home Made Stupid Squad (a moniker aptly used by my friend Jesse) strikes again! I seem to have struck a chord with this post, in more ways than one: not only did I get quite a few encouraging comments, but someone or a few someones at Procter & Gamble suddenly started reading this blog! Welcome! So, again today I tuned into Newsworld for my fix of news, and lo and behold, there was Madame Woodburn once more, this time tut-tutting in her posh accent about how having a "beautiful fra

Francis Ford Coppola now calling Buenos Aires home (The Post and Courier)

Wed, 16 Apr 2008 21:03:26 PDT
The maestro has gone gaucho. Francis Ford Coppola, 68, believes he's finally where he's supposed to be, a place where he can revel in financial and artistic control. Yes, Buenos Aires, Argentina, land of comparatively low production costs and much cultural ferment, especially the streets of this cosmopolitan capital. A city, one might add, with a large Italian community dating back to the early ...
